At the age of 21, Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) realizes that he has a very unique talent that is he can travel time. She uses her talents to find and determine a better life for herself and of course to find a life partner. In every advantage there must be drawbacks, even for Tim’s extraordinary talent it can cause a significant change to an event that he changed in his time. When he meets Mary (Rachel McAdams), the girl he loves, his desire to make the world a better place and get him a girlfriend, it turns out that with his time traveling talent, everything is not as easy as the audience imagines.
In this film, the romanticism shown is not at all exaggerated, but it looks much wider, deeper, and really makes the audience feel the true meaning of love. Unlike romantic drama films which in my opinion too much to dramatize a relationship, About Time explores the simpler, but more intimate, side of romance. About Time also does not focus on romance between Tim and Mary alone, but also between Tim and his family. In this film we are shown a very harmonious ideal relationship between Tim and his father (Bill Nighy).
Richard Kurtis is a figure who has experience in producing films with the theme of romance. Even though he only directed the film Love Actually, which I really like. However, his name has remained in several films of the same genre as a screenwriter. Examples of films he has written are Notting Hill and Dwilogi Bridget Jones Diary. The themes are similar to the british setting which has become a hook for the figure of Richard Curtis.
